JAMMU: A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist and two associates involved in the IED blast outside a court complex in Udhampur district in March that killed one and injured 14 were arrested by J&K police, officials said on Saturday. A sticky bomb was seized from them.
The LeT operative confessed to planting the IED at Udhampur’s Slathia Chowk on March 9 on the instructions of his handler Mohammad Amin, alias Khubaib, a terrorist operating out of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Additional DGP Mukesh Singh said a number of suspects were questioned before investigators zeroed in on Mohammad Ramzan Sohil, a resident of Halla Bohar Dhar in Ramban district. The other two arrested suspects were identified as Khurshed Ahmed of Motla Dessa in Doda and Nisar Ahmed Khan of Bhaderwah.
Sohil is the son of Lashkar terrorist Mohammad Ishaq, who was killed by security forces in 2003, Singh said.
The ADGP said Sohil had been in contact with Khubaib through social media and was instructed to plant the sticky bomb at Slathia Chowk and keep another at a safe place for future use. The second sticky bomb was the one seized during his arrest.
Sohil received Rs 30,000 in his Jammu and Kashmir Bank account on March 23 to carry out the blast, the ADGP said. His associate Khurshed, whose brother-in-law Bilal Ahmed Butt is an LeT operative, deposited the amount in Sohil’s account on the instructions of Khubaib.
The third accused, Nisar, was active in Doda district between 2001 and 2006. He picked up two IEDs, one in December 2021 and another in January 2022, from Belicharana in Jammu, Singh said.
