NEW DELHI: In yet another murder over a petty issue in the city, a 17-year-old boy was assaulted and stabbed to death on Sunday allegedly after he refused to give a group of youths Rs 10 for a cigarette in central Delhi’s Anand Parbat.
Four men have been arrested from central Delhi and have been identified by police as Praveen, 20, Ajay, 23, Sonu Kumar, 24, and Jatin, 24.
Shweta Chauhan, DCP (Central), revealed on Tuesday that police received information about a body lying on HR Road near Ramjas School in Anand Parbat. “We found an unconscious boy on the roadside who had a stab injury on his upper abdomen. No eyewitness could be traced. The boy was taken to hospital where he was declared dead,” said Chauhan.
A team led by Mukesh Antil, station house officer of Anand Parbat police station and inspector (investigation) Yogendra Kumar went in pursuit of the culprits. “The deceased was later identified as Vijay, a resident of Baljeet Nagar in Anand Parbat,” said Chauhan, adding that the accused were identified with the help of CCTV footage and nabbed after simultaneous raids.
On Sunday, the four accused were coming from the direction of upper Anand Parbat when they spotted Vijay on HR Road, police revealed. They had an argument with the teenager, who was sitting on a staircase over a cigarette. “Sonu, who lives in the same vicinity as the deceased, asked Vijay to give him Rs 10 for a cigarette. When the latter refused to comply, a scuffle ensued and the accused stabbed the boy,” said Chauhan.
“We are now probing whether the accused and Vijay had any past arguments or enmity over some issues,” the DCP added. Vijay used to do petty electrical works. His father is a gardener and his brother an AC mechanic.
Praveen, a labourer, Ajay, a driver, and Jatin, a salesman, live in Baba Faridpuri while tailor Sonu lives in Anand Parbat. After killing the boy, the four tried to leave the city but were nabbed in the nick of time, the cops said.
