Ahead of his questioning, Congress workers were detained from outside the party’s headquarters in Delhi where they had gathered for a proposed march to the Enforcement Directorate’s office.

Congress workers protest in Delhi, detained
Congress workers staging protests outside party’s headquarters in the capital, holding placards in support of Rahul Gandhi saying “jhukega nahi”, were detained by the Delhi Police.
Visuals from the AICC headquarters also showed workers staging protest holding inflatable balloons with ‘Satyameva Jayate’ written on them.
The workers were also seen showing posters stating, “I am not Savarkar, I am Rahul Gandhi”, “truth will prevail” and “Dear Modi and Shah, this is Rahul Gandhi, he will not bow down” outside the Congress leader’s residence in Delhi.
Security beefed up outside Rahul’s residence
Heavy police deployment was seen outside Rahul Gandhi’s residence on Monday.
Additional security forces were also stationed outside the Enforcement Directorate’s office in the capital.
Delhi Police imposes Section 144
The Delhi Police imposed Section 144 in the area around party headquarters at Akbar Road in the national capital.
“Section 144 is imposed here. It is requested to all of you that do not violate the Act 144 otherwise strict legal action will be taken,” said an order from deputy commissioner of Delhi police.
The Congress has also alleged that the Delhi police has barricaded all entry points to the AICC headquarters, preventing the entry and exit of people.
Senior Congress leaders slam Modi govt
Congress leader and Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot said his party was holding a protest march against the misuse of central agencies by the ruling BJP government.
He added that there was nothing wrong in holding a peaceful protest.
Congress leader Randeep Surjewala also said that the party will not bow down, as we are the protectors of the Constitution.
“By deploying a large police force, and imposing an undeclared emergency in Delhi, it has been proven that Modi government is shaken by Congress,” news agency ANI quoted him as saying.
“Satya ka Sangram will continue under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi. Even the British could not suppress the voice of Congress during the freedom struggle, then how can this ruling government?” Surjewala told ANI.
National Herald-AJL case in brief
The National Herald case pertains to the probe into the alleged financial irregularities in the Congress-promoted Young Indian that owns the National Herald newspaper, founded by Jawaharlal Nehru. The paper is published by Associated Journals Limited.
Rahul and his mother Sonia are alleged to have been involved in a ‘cheating and breach of trust’ when Associated Journals Ltd was acquired by Young India Pvt Ltd in which the Gandhis held a majority stake.
The case, pertaining to the investigation of the alleged financial irregularities under the PMLA, was registered about nine months ago after a trial court took cognisance of the Income Tax Department probe carried out on the basis of a private criminal complaint filed by former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Subramanian Swamy in 2013.
Rahul Gandhi was earlier summoned to join the investigation but he was out of the country and later he was given a fresh date of June 13 to join the probe.
ED on Friday issued a fresh summons to Sonia Gandhi asking her to appear on June 23 for questioning in connection with the National Herald money laundering case.
