FEROZEPUR: Slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala’s murder and a series of posts by various gangsters on different social media platforms, some claiming the responsibility for the murder while others criticising the act, have drawn a line between inmates lodged in Centre Jail Ferozepur.
On Wednesday afternoon, the situation inside the jail turned violent as nearly four groups of inmates clashed over the death of Moose Wala, and more than a dozen inmates are said to have been injured. However, sources in the local civil hospital claimed that only four critically injured inmates were brought by the jail authorities.
According to jail sources, the inmates with minor injuries were treated inside the
jail only. Prison authorities have alleged that the fight broke out as the faction mourning the death of the singer came face to face with the group which justified the murder. Later, it is learned that gangsters locked in the high-security zone of the jail also clashed with each other.
Sources also claim that the two groups clashed after a mobile phone was seized from the barracks of two gangsters in the evening following an argument over the death of Moose Wala, but prison authorities clarified claimed that the two groups started a fight after Mansa police reached Ferozepur jail to take the custody of gang- ster Manprit Singh Manna on a production warrant for his reported involvement in the murder of Moose Wala.
“One faction, supporting the gangster Manna, was accusing the opposite group of giving a tip-off to the police regarding his involvement in the murder and they clashed over the issue,” said sources. The sources further claim that if security inside the jail is not tightened and precautionary steps were not taken, a major and bloody clash could erupt again in Ferozepur Central Jail. All efforts to contact Parwinder Singh, Jail Superintendent, proved futile as his mobile phone remain unattended and other officials were lip-tight when asked for version.
Meanwhile, the jail authorities have recovered five mobile phones and SIM cards from inmates during a special search in the last two days.
