The rumours seem to be true. Amber Heard is reportedly being axed from ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom‘!

Just weeks after the actress lost her defamation case against Johnny DeppJustJared.com confirms that the actress’ role in ‘Aquaman 2′ has indeed been cut and that her character Mera will be recast.

The Hollywood news portal claims sources close to the ‘Aquaman’ production stated that “Amber has not been completely cut from the film. She still has a small role.”

Another source, on the other hand, confirmed that the Amber will be recast.

The actress’ role in the film starring Jason Momoa in the lead, came under the scanner following the six-week-long defamation trial her ex-husband Johnny Depp. During the trial, Amber herself admitted she did not know if her character would make the final cut of the film.

Heard also alleged in court that it was due to the case that Warner Bros. decided to significantly cut her role and also refused to increase her pay for the second instalment.

During testimony, Walter Hamada, the head of the DC films segment of Warner Bros., admitted they had previously considered recasting her, but solely because the actress ‘lacked chemistry’ with Jason. Hamada said, “Editorially they were able to make that relationship work in the first movie, but there was a concern that it took a lot of effort to get there.”

He went on to add that ‘Aquaman 2’ was conceived as a “buddy comedy” between Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilsonwho plays King Orm, Aquaman’s half-brother.

Amidst talks of a possible recast, an insider told the portal, “Warner Bros. decided to recast Amber Heard‘s role after screen testing the movie. They are going to be doing reshoots with Jason Momoa and Nicole Kidman.”

It was previously reported on The Direct that Heard’s scenes as Mera will be deleted from ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ following a meeting between Warner Bros. bosses.

The portal quotes a Twitter handle KC Walsh that alleges that Mera may die during childbirth at the start of the sequel, but its upcoming test screening will be telling.

The film reportedly wrapped up principal photography earlier this year, but reshoots to tie up loose ends are still possible as the team still has a year before the film debuts in theatres.

Previously, Warner Bros. axed Johnny Depp from the Harry Potter spinoff ‘Fantastic Beasts‘ in which he played the character of the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. The actor was replaced by Mads Mikkelsen.

‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ is slated to hit theatres on March 17, 2023.
