The first official trailer that dropped online today, gives DC comics fans glimpses of this all new origins story that promises to change the hierarchy of power. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, the film will see Dwayne Johnson take on the titular role that he says, ‘has become my DNA’.
‘Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods—and imprisoned just as quickly—Black Adam (Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world,’ reads the official synopsis of the film.
The first official trailer wastes no time in introducing us to former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan as the character Dr. Fate. The two-minute-long trailer is packed with action, comedy and special appearances by a new league of DC heroes featuring Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom SmasherSarah Shahi as Adrianna, Marwan Kenzari as Ishmael, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone and Bodhi Sabongui as Amon.
Hours ahead of the trailer launch, Dwayne gave fans a heads up about the exciting update and shared a couple of new posters, saying, “In ONE DAY. World premiere trailer of #BlackAdam… cool set shot of the man in black, moments before he unleashes 5,000 years of hell.”
‘Black Adam’ is a spin-off from Warner Bros and New Line Cinema’s ‘Shazam!’, featuring Zachary Levi. Black Adam is one of a handful of DC films currently in development alongside a sequel to Shazam, as well as movies starring The FlashBlue Beetle, and Batgirl.
The character first appeared in DC Comics in the 1940s as a villain corrupted by power. He became an anti-hero in the early 2000s.
The film is slated to hit theatres on 19 October 2022.
