Actress Iman Vellani brings to the screen, Kamala Khana Pakistani-American teen growing up in Jersey City. When not stepping up to save the day in her neighbourhood, this brown, Muslim character is buzzing about Superheroes and has her heart set on Bollywood, especially, on the King, Shah Rukh Khan.
ETimes connected with producer and writer Sana Amanat and directors Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi (who helmed episodes 1 and 2) for a quick chat over video where we spoke about all things SRK.
Just last week, fans of the superstar went into overdrive online when it was revealed that Shah Rukh’s name and his popular films like ‘Baazigar’ and ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ get a special mention in the Marvel show. When asked if fans need to keep their eyes open for an SRK cameo, Sana did not hold back her excitement and she said, “If Shah Rukh Khan wants to be in this show, we will go film again! We’ll go back to production, we’re (definitely) going back to production! Call somebody!”
Adil went a step ahead and even suggested an alternate action film universe for King Khan. “We would want to make a Bad Boys 3 remake with Shah Rukh Khan,” he said to which Sana suggested, “This will be the perfect pitch.”
“He is one of the biggest stars in the world, a legend,” Billal added.
With the three getting in tune to the Bollywood vibe, we asked how Shah Rukh Khan, a Hindi film actor become a prominent feature of this superhero story.
Sana, who has been penning Kamala’s story in the comic books and even on-screen debut, let us in on the scoop. The writer and producer said, “SRK, actually is from the comics. We have some Shah Rukh Khan mentions in the comics because it was linked to Kamala’s connectivity with Bollywood and we just love him.”
Although coming from Pakistani and Moroccan-Belgian descent, the three were united by their love for SRK. When asked what the actor meant to them and other South-Asian kids growing up abroad, Sana said, “As a Pakistani kid in Jersey, I loved Bollywood actors growing up. So having that integrated into Kamala’s world makes it more global and real. It’s really awesome and we are very excited about it.”
“Shah Rukh, if you want to work with us, we are down for it,” Sana added.
In the event that this piece could manage to catch Shah Rukh’s attention, Bilall and Adil made sure to leave behind their fan-mail saying, “Yeah! We’re here man… We’re big fans!”
